Foothill-De Anza’s Mark Hua Demonstrates Procurement Excellence with CPPO Certification
Mark Hua, Director of Purchasing, Contracts, and Risk Management at Foothill-De Anza Community College District achieved a significant milestone this past May by attaining Certified Public Procurement Officer (CPPO) certification! This globally recognized credential signifies exceptional proficiency in public procurement principles and practices.
Hua was one of only four in California, and one of 38 nationwide, to earn this prestigious designation during the Spring UPPCC Certification Examinations. The certification process is highly competitive, demanding a rigorous combination of academic qualifications, extensive professional experience, and a comprehensive understanding of procurement ethics and best practices.
“I decided to pursue the CPPO certification because I wanted to improve my skills and knowledge in procurement and contract management. Getting this certification helps me stay updated with the best practices and standards in the industry, which is important for doing my job well,” commented Hua. “… I wanted to ensure I could bring the best practices to my current role while also opening up more career possibilities down the line.”
Additionally, CPPOs are bound by a strict code of ethics and must commit to ongoing professional development, which is a testament to Hua’s commitment to excellence and his ability to navigate the complexities of public procurement. “I feel the certification allows for a level of trust and authority when providing guidance and support to my District colleagues. As with all professional certifications, it shows you’ve done the work to gain the knowledge and experience,” shared Hua.
