CollegeBuys’ Gratitude filled Goodbye to Chancellor Oakley

On July 31, 2022, California Community Colleges Chancellor Eloy Ortiz Oakley left his position after nearly six years with the system. The CollegeBuys program greatly benefitted from Chancellor Oakley’s dedication and drive during his tenure with the California community college system.

Foundation Vice President of Program Development, J.C. Sales, reflects on Chancellor Oakley’s lasting impact, “Chancellor Oakley has been catalytic to change in our system. He led our system through a very challenging period for public education and made sure we thrived through the policies and strategies he enacted. Key among these strategies are his deep commitment to ongoing efficiencies and collaboration through shared contracting and services between our colleges.”

With so many accomplishments, J.C. focused on Chancellor Oakley’s dedication to collaboration, “During his tenure, he strongly encouraged intersegmental collaboration when possible – bringing together all three systems of public higher education – that resulted in considerable resource efficiencies for CCC, CSU, and UC. Chancellor Oakley sought a strategic dialogue with California industries, engaging them to participate, to advance the Vision and benefit our system.”

We are deeply grateful to Chancellor Oakley and look forward to the wonderful things he will accomplish in his new role as the head of the College Futures Foundation, committed to increasing the rate of students of color and low-income students who complete college.

The California Community Colleges Board of Governors has unanimously selected Deputy Chancellor, Dr. Daisy Gonzales, to serve as interim chancellor of the 116-college system as it conducts a national search to fill the position. She will serve as the CEO of the Board of Governors and oversee the system’s executive office.
