CollegeBuys Fall Forums: Fostering Collaboration for California Community College Professionals

This year, CollegeBuys, in collaboration with hosting colleges, successfully organized two insightful Fall Forums — one in the Southern region at Cerritos College on October 5 and another in the Northern region at Sacramento City College on October 19. These events served as pivotal platforms, featuring engaging sessions carefully curated to educate and unite community college professionals specializing in purchasing, technology, and facilities.

District attendees at the Southern Fall Forum listened as presenters discussed prevalent topics within the purchasing field throughout the day.

Southern Regional Fall Forum Highlights
The Southern Regional Fall Forum, hosted at Cerritos College, offered a rich lineup of sessions tailored to educate and unite professionals in purchasing, technology, and facilities. Noteworthy presentations included:

  • “Future Trends in Procurement” by Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost, LLP (F3 Law) 
  • “Creating a Sense of Belonging on a College Campus” by KI 
  • “Cyber Risk Management” by CDW-G
  • “Supporting Institutional Diversity and Sustainability Goals” by Amazon Business
  • Legislative Update by Rebekah Kallen from the Community College Facility Coalition (CCFC) 

The event drew 44 attendees from 13 districts and received support from sponsors, including Amazon Business, CDW-G, F3 Law, and KI. The award-winning culinary team from Cerritos College provided delightful catering, adding a special touch to the event. Dr. Jose Fierro, President and Superintendent of Cerritos College, and Felipe Lopez, Executive Vice President of Business Services/Assistant Superintendent, delivered welcoming and closing remarks, respectively, bookending a successful forum.

District professionals engaged with Ben Cayabyab, seeking insights into his experience leveraging CollegeBuys contracts for projects in his district.

Northern Regional Fall Forum Highlights
Similarly, the Northern Regional Fall Forum, hosted at Sacramento City College, mirrored the Southern event in its commitment to education and unity among community college professionals. Presentations included:

  • “Future Trends in Procurement” by Fagen Friedman & Fulfrost, LLP (F3 Law) 
  • “Cyber Risk Management” by CDW-G
  • “Successfully Utilizing CollegeBuys for Labor Intensive Projects” by KYA
  • Legislative Update by Rebekah Kallen (CCFC)

Sponsors for the Northern Fall Forum included CDW-G, F3 Law, and KYA, showcasing continued support for community college initiatives. The Northern California Community College Purchasing Group (NCCCPG) meeting took place immediately following the forum, providing an additional opportunity for collaboration. Mario Rodriguez, Executive Vice Chancellor, Finance and Administration, extended welcoming remarks, creating a positive atmosphere for the attendees. The Northern Fall Forum drew a total of 45 attendees from 12 districts, emphasizing the widespread interest and participation in these events.

Both the Southern and Northern Fall Forums underscored the commitment of CollegeBuys and hosting colleges to provide valuable forums for education, collaboration, and unity among community college professionals.
