Butte College’s Allied Health Building Lighting Retrofit Case Study

College campuses are significant contributors to energy consumption, underscoring the importance of prioritizing energy efficiency. By investing in energy-saving measures, not only can institutions align with district sustainability goals, but they can also achieve financial savings and enhance the overall work environment for students and staff. These were the key factors that influenced Butte College’s decision to partner with GonLED for a lighting retrofit on their Allied Health Building. GonLED, a lighting solutions provider, specializes in resolving lighting issues and planning out the most effective strategies to optimize energy while maximizing long-term savings.
Commencing in October 2022 and concluding in February 2023, the project focused on replacing existing lighting structures with more energy-efficient LED alternatives. After conducting a thorough analysis, GonLED developed a plan that would lead to an expected 59% reduction in energy usage. This will lead to a carbon reduction equivalent to planting over 3,100 trees. Moreover, the switch to LED lighting will bring about cost savings. While the initial investment in energy efficiency may be substantial, the returns on investment and long-term savings make it highly worthwhile. LEDs outperform incandescent lights in energy efficiency, generate less heat, and require less frequent replacement, resulting in reduced cooling and maintenance expenses. In total, Butte College is projected to achieve an annual ROI of 53.7%, saving over $1.3 million in the next 10 years, and fully recovering the investment in less than 2 years.
CollegeBuys takes pride in supporting districts’ endeavors to modernize their facilities and transition to sustainable alternatives with suppliers such as GonLED.
